10. University & Community Service - Inventory & Evidence

THE SCHOLARSHIP OF APPLICATION
As a colleague within the Library, faculty are expected to participate fully and collegially in the collective efforts of the Library faculty to ensure that the necessary functions of the Library and University are carried out. In addition, it is essential that faculty establish a positive and collegial working relationship with the faculty and staff within the Library. More specifically, faculty are expected not only to perform mandatory tasks such as participating in departmental meetings, but also are expected to participate actively in the professional life of the Library. As the probationary period progresses, ________ will also assume a contributing role at the University level.

Collaboration among colleagues is essential for the Library to effectively provide support to the educational mission of the University. Therefore, submission of proposals for collective action, willingness to volunteer for responsibilities, ability to maintain constructive, professional relationships with colleagues, instructional faculty, staff and students, attendance at Library meetings, active participation on Library committees, and otherwise sharing in the collective work of the Library are expected activities of a successful Library faculty member.

A. Library Standards and Expectations

  1. Library/University Service: _________ is expected to serve on at least two (2) committees in the Library and a minimum of one (1) committee at the University or system level during the probationary period, such as a committee or subcommittee of the Academic Senate or another University level committee/task force.

  2. Other Service
    1. Public/Community Service: In keeping with obligations of being part of Carnegie Engaged University, during his/her/their probationary period, _________ will provide evidence of no less than two (2) examples of substantial or ongoing community involvement relating in some way to his/her/their professional or educational background, or professional/university service.

    2. University Community Service: Throughout the probationary period, probationary faculty will encounter opportunities to participate in nondiscipline-based University service, e.g., faculty advisor to student clubs, nondiscipline-based faculty groups, University outreach, etc. Service in this area may substitute for one (1) of the Public/Community Service requirements.

  3. Collegial and Collaborative Relations: While there is no quantitative target set, demonstration of efforts in this area must be provided in the WPAF.
B. Methods to Evaluate Progress

The Library Faculty Peer Review Committee will evaluate service based on the documentation of the progress in each of these areas provided in the WPAF. The committee will only consider signed comments regarding _________’s working relationships with colleagues, instructional faculty, staff students, and others that are made available in the WPAF.
